Lead Development Project Manager

Overview

In this role you will drive the development and delivery of large onshore and offshore electricity transmission projects as part of SSE’s Beyond 2030 plan. You’ll lead cross‑functional teams through feasibility, planning, consenting, procurement and construction handover, ensuring safety, collaboration and delivery within budget and schedule. The position supports accelerating the net-zero transition and strengthening energy security. You’ll partner with diverse stakeholders to shape resilient, consentable solutions and measurable project outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary teams across employees, consultants, contractors and partners to enable delivery
• Guide concepts from feasibility to construction handover for major transmission projects
• Direct route/technology option selections to ensure deliverability and consentability within budget and programme
• Oversee programmes, budgets, procurement, risks, governance and reporting for projects
• Manage internal and external relationships with clear updates and safety/environmental leadership throughout the lifecycle

Key requirements

• Significant experience delivering large, complex capital projects in electricity transmission, generation, utilities or major infrastructure
• Deep understanding of the project development lifecycle: feasibility to handover
• Proven ability to lead multiple complex workstreams and teams
• Strong commercial/controls experience: procurement, contract management (NEC3), budgets, programmes, risk, governance
• Excellent communication, influencing and decision-making with commitment to health, safety and environmental responsibility
• Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience; professional PM qualification would be advantageous
