Overview

In this role you will lead design and delivery of highway and drainage schemes for development projects within a forward-thinking transport consultancy. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliant, high-quality solutions that align with client needs and regulatory standards. You’ll guide junior staff, present findings to stakeholders, and drive project delivery from concept through to completion. The position offers a chance to shape civil infrastructure for new developments while staying current with industry innovations and best practices. Your work will impact how traffic and drainage are planned and implemented across projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design highway and drainage solutions for S104, S38, and S278
  • Perform technical assessments for new developments
  • Guide and mentor junior staff and explain technical concepts
  • Review documents and drawings produced by junior team members
  • Present technical information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage projects to ensure quality, on-time delivery and adherence to specs
  • Coordinate with Project Managers on progress and task allocation
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations in all phases
  • Stay updated with industry trends, best practices and innovations

Key requirements

  • Highway Engineer / Civil Engineer background
  • 2 years’ experience in UK development-related infrastructure
  • Experience with S38, S278, S104 processes
  • Background in flood risk assessments or drainage strategies
  • Proficient in drainage design principles and Microdrainage and/or Causeway Flow
  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Understanding of UK design standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, Sewers for Adoption, national planning policies)
  • AutoCAD and Civils 3D skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Communication and ability to present technical information
