Financial Controller

Overview

As Financial Controller, you lead the close processes and ensure accurate reporting to drive business decisions. You will maintain strong controls, push process improvements, and support a streamlined reporting function for WPP Media. You’ll deliver timely P&L and balance sheet insights, with relevant commentary and variance analysis. You work closely with regional and group finance teams to enable strategic decision-making and financial transformation. This role offers scale, influence, and a hands-on path to shaping financial governance in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end, quarter-end, half-year, and year-end close with timely financial reporting
• Prepare and review monthly management accounts and commentary
• Deliver variance analysis and identify key business drivers with actionable recommendations
• Oversee revenue recognition in line with standards and policies
• Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are accurate and completed on time
• Support statutory reporting and year-end submissions
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis to support decision-making
• Prepare and submit reporting packages to group finance
• Act as primary contact for regional and group finance teams on reporting requests
• Support implementation of new reporting processes and requirements
• Manage, coach, and develop finance team; foster accountability and continuous improvement
• Maintain strong internal controls and support audits and compliance initiatives
• Partner with operational and commercial stakeholders to translate data into strategic insights

Key requirements

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
• Previous experience as Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar
• Strong financial reporting, accounting, and balance sheet management
• Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, SUMIFS, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, etc.)
• Experience leading and managing finance teams
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management
• Proactive, hands-on with a solution-focused mindset
