Electrical Engineer

Overview

As Electrical Engineer, Open Route you will design, review and support electrical systems for rail open route lineside work, coordinating with HS2 and other rail disciplines. You’ll ensure compliance with UK rail standards, prepare technical approvals, and support installation, testing and commissioning. The role blends design, risk management and field support within a major infrastructure program. A hands-on, collaborative environment awaits with a clear impact on project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Support design, review and implementation of electrical systems for HS2 open route lineside works
• Coordinate with track, signalling, telecoms, OHLE and HV power teams
• Review technical docs, drawings and specifications
• Select materials and prepare approval/acceptance documentation
• Produce quality documentation (ITPS, installation verification sheets)
• Identify and manage technical risks and support problem resolution
• Support assurance, quality and safety processes throughout the project lifecycle
• Interface with installation/construction teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable
• Provide engineering support during installation, testing and commissioning
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, safety and planning teams

Key requirements

• Experience on UK rail infrastructure projects
• Electrical engineering experience in large-scale infrastructure or rail systems
• Strong understanding of electrical design principles and UK rail standards (e.g., Network Rail, BS 7671)
• Knowledge of earthing and bonding in rail environments
• Experience with main contractor or major project environments
• Knowledge of electrical installation practices and switchgear
• Full UK driving licence
• ECS/CSCS card
• Excellent written and spoken English
