Senior Backend Developer

Overview

In this role you will design, develop, and modernise high-performance desktop and cloud applications for rock physics and geoscience. You’ll own solutions from architecture to deployment, work across C#/.NET and C++, and guide best practices in design, testing, and CI/CD. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll mentor peers and contribute to technical strategy. The position combines software engineering with scientific domain impact in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high-performance desktop and cloud applications
• Take ownership of architecture through deployment of solutions
• Work across C#/.NET and C++ codebases
• Modernise legacy scientific software and migrate to modern frameworks/UI
• Implement best practices in architecture, design patterns, SOLID, testing, CI/CD
• Collaborate with Product Owners and stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions
• Conduct code reviews and mentor developers
• Explore AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and quality
• Contribute to technical strategy and continuous improvement initiatives

Key requirements

• 5+ years of production-grade software experience
• Strong C#/.NET experience
• Strong C/C++ development experience
• Experience building complex desktop applications in engineering/scientific contexts
• Solid understanding of OO design, design patterns, SOLID
• Experience with automated testing, Git, code reviews and CI/CD
• Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or Google Cloud)
• Experience modernising legacy apps and UI/UX frameworks
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Degree qualified in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
