Overview

Senior/Principal Civil Engineer to lead highways and drainage infrastructure projects in London. You will own projects from planning through delivery, collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams to drive high-quality schemes. The role supports growth of the London office and offers progression into technical leadership and client management. You’ll work on diverse developments across residential, commercial, and mixed-use sectors, delivering solutions from S38/S278/S104 schemes to SuDS and drainage design. This is a hands-on opportunity with mentoring, technical leadership, and meaningful impact on infrastructure delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and delivery of highways and drainage infrastructure for various developments
  • Produce and review detailed designs (S38, S278, S104, SuDS, earthworks, levels)
  • Utilise Civil 3D and drainage software (InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow)
  • Own projects from planning through construction
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, planners, contractors, and authorities
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and submissions
  • Review work and mentor junior/mid-level engineers
  • Support project management, fee proposals, and client relationships
  • Contribute to growth and development of the London team
  • At Principal level, assume greater technical leadership, client management, and team development

Key requirements

  • Strong UK consultancy experience delivering development infrastructure
  • Significant highways and drainage design experience in residential/commercial/mixed-use developments
  • Solid knowledge of S38, S278, S104, SuDS, earthworks and UK design standards
  • Experience using Civil 3D and industry-standard drainage design software
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered or working towards ICE membership (ideally)
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills
  • Ability to take ownership and guide less experienced engineers
  • Principal level experience in project management, client relationships or business development (advantageous)
