Drainage Engineer (Roads)

Overview

In this Senior Engineer role you will lead drainage design for roads, active travel and major civil schemes within a high-performing team. You will apply advanced drainage and flood risk knowledge to deliver high-quality, safe, and compliant solutions for major projects. You will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to drive technical quality and service efficiency, shaping outcomes for national road development and other infrastructure. Responsibilities

• Deliver design packages for roads, public transport and active travel projects as part of an integrated team
• Coordinate engineering and technician resources to meet work packages
• Provide technical input to multidisciplinary project teams and support delivery of transportation, development and environmental projects
• Prepare technical reports and clearly communicate outputs to clients
• Develop the technical capacity of the Roads and drainage team
• Apply drainage design (feasibility to detailed design) including road drainage systems and flood risk measures
• Utilise DMRB, CIRIA and other standards; seek appropriate departures/relaxations and secure approvals
• Ensure health & safety, environmental compliance and in-house QA standards/processes

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• CEng or IEng status or near qualification
• Postgraduate experience in surface water drainage design and flood risk for major road and civil projects
• Strong knowledge of drainage principles, DMRB, SuDs, hydraulic modelling
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and ArcGIS
• Experience with MicroDrainage and Causeway Flow; familiarity with InfoWorks ICM, FloodModeller, TuFlow; beneficial experience with HEC-RAS (1D/2D) and HEC-HMS
