Overview

In this enterprise portfolio leadership role, you own and optimise a large, cross-domain portfolio spanning applications, infrastructure, cloud, data and business change. You will lead a team of ~10 Project Managers, translating strategic priorities into a deliverable plan with clear governance and outcomes. You will engage with senior sponsors and stakeholders to guide investment decisions, challenge delivery, and recover projects when needed. The position offers scope to shape portfolio discipline, improve predictability and value, and foster an inclusive, performance-driven delivery culture. Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day performance of a complex enterprise portfolio with integrated roadmap across priorities, milestones, dependencies, resources and risks
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of ~10 Project Managers with standards for planning, governance, financial control and delivery quality
  • Drive portfolio intake, prioritisation and reforecasting with evidence-based recommendations on acceleration, deferral, re-scoping or pausing initiatives
  • Maintain control of annual expenditure (approx. 5–7 million) including budgets, commitments, actuals, accruals, forecasts and supplier performance
  • Establish governance and assurance rhythm, challenge weak plans, and lead recovery actions to restore delivery confidence
  • Provide concise, decision-led reporting and recommendations to Steering Committees and senior leadership
  • Strengthen portfolio insight, tools and ways of working to improve predictability, quality and value with minimal bureaucracy

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience at enterprise Programme or Portfolio Manager level, including at least five years as a Programme Manager and five years as a Portfolio Manager or Portfolio Lead
  • Direct accountability for a portfolio of at least 20 concurrent projects and annual spend around 5–7 million
  • Line-management experience for at least eight Project Managers with objective setting and capability development
  • Strong portfolio governance, prioritisation, demand management, forecasting, resource planning, risk, dependencies and benefits tracking
  • Credibility with executive stakeholders and experience presenting to Steering Committees or governance forums
  • Track record of leading recovery across underperforming projects and restoring delivery confidence
  • Formal qualification in programme or portfolio management (e.g., MSP or MoP) with PRINCE2, PMP, APM or equivalent
  • Clear, concise communication, commercial judgement and ability to bring structure, pace and transparency to complex environments
