Trading Law Advisor

Overview

In this role you will help B&Q comply with UK and Ireland trading laws while enabling commercial objectives. You will partner with retail, trade, digital and marketplace teams to translate complex regulations into pragmatic guidance. Manage regulatory investigations and support policy development to embed a culture of compliance. You will shape regulatory risk, drive continuous improvement, and protect the company reputation. This is a cross-functional role at a leading UK retailer with a focus on practical, risk-based legal advice.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely, risk-based legal and regulatory advice to support business decisions
• Manage responses to regulatory enquiries, investigations, referrals and enforcement actions
• Develop policies, controls and governance frameworks demonstrating regulatory due diligence
• Identify emerging legal/regulatory risks via horizon scanning and communicate implications to stakeholders
• Assist in managing escalated disputes and legal claims
• Collaborate with external advisers, regulators and industry bodies to support compliance
• Participate in strategic project groups to embed compliance at early stages
• Deliver training on legal and regulatory obligations across the business
• Support senior leaders in understanding and mitigating material risks
• Assist Head of Legal & Regulatory Compliance with ad hoc matters across the wider Kingfisher Legal network

Key requirements

• Strong experience in consumer law frameworks
• Experience in a regulatory authority or managing enforcement responses
• Experience in retail/eCommerce/consumer-facing environments
• Ability to handle complex regulatory issues confidentially
• Excellent communication and drafting skills for mixed audiences
• Proactive, resilient self-starter with influencing capability
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage high-volume workloads
• Ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives
