Overview

In this leadership role you guide a small team of Manufacturing & Prove Out Engineers across Machining, Plating, and Moulding to drive improvements and deliver quality. You act as a deputy to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, maintaining momentum and direction. You support NPI and existing production, optimise set times and output, and ensure safe, cost-effective practices. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to meet KPI targets and enable smooth product introductions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a small team to support Machining, Plating, 2nd Operations, Welding, and Moulding in Hastings
  • Drive continuous improvements to reduce CoPQ and increase efficiency in Primary areas
  • Define and document best practices; train teams for repeatable, high-quality production and NPI
  • Provide technical solutions to daily production challenges and support KPI attainment
  • Document tooling, work holding, and gauging requirements for new products in routings and specifications
  • Maintain routed times, work centers, and costed batch sizes in SAP to ensure accurate costing
  • Monitor and apply technical developments in manufacturing methods
  • Ensure health and safety compliance with procedures and legislation
  • Onboard new team members with training plans and monitor progress
  • Manage team performance at group and individual levels
  • Deputise for Manufacturing Engineering Manager as required
  • Carry out other duties as directed by the business

Key requirements

  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Degree in Mechanical/Production Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in CNC Machining, Plating, Welding or Moulding is desirable
  • Supervisory or team-lead experience required
  • Strong SAP experience; computer literate
  • Experience with quality tools: PFMEA, control plans, quality inspection plans
  • Ability to identify and develop new or improved manufacturing processes
  • Proactive problem-solving using 5 Whys, fishbone, and 8D reports
  • Continuous improvement focus including SMED, 5S+1, flow, material replenishment, and standards of work
