Flight Test Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will plan, execute, and report flight and ground tests to confirm aircraft and system performance meets requirements. You will own traceability from requirements to tests and develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, and instrumentation plans. You’ll coordinate test readiness, support execution, analyze results, and present evidence for decisions and regulatory engagement. You will mentor junior engineers and ensure compliance with aviation safety standards. This position offers exposure to innovative aerospace projects within a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Own requirements-to-test traceability for assigned systems and features
• Develop and author flight and ground test plans, test cards, procedures, instrumentation plans, and risk assessments
• Lead test readiness coordination including aircraft configuration control and data acquisition setup
• Support flight and ground test execution in safety-focused operations
• Analyze test data, create plots and reports, identify root causes and propose improvements
• Produce test reports, results summaries, and verification/validation evidence packs
• Manage anomalies, coordinate troubleshooting, and execute re-test plans
• Collaborate with Flight Operations and Maintenance to improve procedures and checklists
• Mentor and support junior engineers in test prep, data handling, and reporting
• Maintain compliance with aviation standards and safety processes
• Support Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance to meet priorities

Key requirements

• Degree or equivalent experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline
• Experience in flight test, flight test support, systems/integration/test, or operational test in aviation
• Experience authoring test plans and delivering test reports/evidence against defined requirements
• Experience with test instrumentation and data acquisition/telemetry setup, validation, and troubleshooting
• Strong data analysis capabilities including Excel and MATLAB/Python or equivalent
• Experience in safety-managed operational environment including risk assessment and configuration control
• Eligible to work in the UK and able to travel as required by the test programme
