Associate Director – Structural Engineering

Overview

In this role you lead and deliver high-profile building structures projects from a central London hub. You work closely with experienced directors to mentor staff while expanding the firm’s reputation and client base. You will steer multi-million pound schemes UK and overseas, balancing design excellence with practical delivery. This is a hands-on leadership position with significant influence on technical direction, project outcomes and business development.

Responsibilities

• lead and deliver building structures projects, mentoring graduates and junior staff
• manage project teams and provide technical direction to ensure high-quality outcomes
• develop and win new work through business development efforts
• prepare feasibility studies, concept and design reports, and design calculations (Eurocodes knowledge desired)
• prepare contract documents and specifications, supervise production of drawings and calculations
• undertake project management tasks and liaise with clients
• support knowledge sharing and development of specialist expertise within the team
• report to the Building Structures Director

Key requirements

• at least 10 years of practical design experience in a UK structures design consultancy
• strong client-facing skills and ability to build relationships
• self-motivated with leadership capability and ability to work with minimal supervision
• desirable Chartered Engineer status
• experience with feasibility studies, concept and scheme design, and design calculations
• familiarity with working on large-scale projects (£50m–£400m) and multi-national scope
• experience in project management and supervising staff
