Overview

As Associate Director – Structural Engineer, you will lead the structural and seismic design of complex, safety-critical facilities in defence, research, and nuclear sectors. You will provide NSQEP-level technical leadership, ensure compliance with codes and safety requirements, and deliver advanced analysis and resilience studies. You will mentor engineers, manage multidisciplinary teams, and support nuclear safety cases and regulatory submissions. Based in Adelaide with relocation possible, the role offers hybrid work and opportunities to grow AECOM’s technical capability and client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural and seismic design of complex buildings and safety-critical facilities in defence, research and nuclear sectors
  • Provide technical leadership and NSQEP oversight ensuring code, standard, and safety compliance
  • Deliver advanced structural/seismic analysis including dynamic assessment and resilience studies
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with clients and stakeholders
  • Review and assure quality of structural deliverables across project phases
  • Support nuclear safety cases and regulatory submissions
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to growth of technical capability and client relationships

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 15+ years’ experience in structural engineering with seismic and safety-critical projects
  • Experience as NSQEP or in highly regulated nuclear environments
  • Chartered Engineer and Registered Professional Engineer or equivalent accreditation
  • Strong knowledge of Australian and international seismic, nuclear and structural standards
  • Proficiency in advanced structural analysis and software (FEA packages, ETABS, SpaceGass, RAPT)
  • Proven leadership, communication and project delivery skills
  • Ability to obtain defence clearance (AUKUS)
