Overview

As Signalling Engineering Manager you lead the London Signalling Design team within the Rail Business to deliver technically sound signalling schemes. You will shape design scope, methodology, and ensure timely, high-quality outcomes for UK and overseas projects. You’ll mentor staff, manage delivery across work packages, and support bid activity, contributing to a growing, multidisciplinary rail portfolio. This role offers hands-on leadership in a stimulating project environment with opportunities to grow the project pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the signalling design team across projects
  • Define design scope and methodology from client briefs
  • Provide technical guidance for detailed signalling design and calculations
  • Produce and check signalling principles designs and calculations
  • Act as Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE)
  • Report on team performance to Management and planning
  • Monitor progress to meet timescales and targets
  • Mentor and develop signalling team members
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects

Key requirements

  • Extensive hands-on experience in production, checking and approval of feasibility, outline and detailed signalling designs and calculations
  • Strong knowledge of signalling design principles, standards, components, and fabrication methods
  • Experience with interlocking principles and signalling assets within Network Rail or LU context
  • Experience with signalling construction methods and installation
  • Understanding of project lifecycle in multidiscipline railway projects
  • Ability to perform technical approvals of signalling designs (IDC/IDR)
  • Ability to interface signalling with other rail disciplines
