Overview

You join the BESS design team to lead electrical layouts for substations up to 400 kV and coordinate with installation, commissioning, and other disciplines. The role blends design leadership with hands-on detailing, mentoring juniors, and delivering end-to-end electrical integration for flagship energy projects. You’ll work in a hybrid setup across site, office, and remote environments, contributing to standardised systems and high‑voltage design standards. Responsibilities

  • Define base electrical site layouts for adoptable/private assets in line with DNO/IDNO/client requirements
  • Coordinate systems studies and integrate outputs into detailed design and equipment specs
  • Contribute to specifications for major plant items (disconnectors, CTs, VTs, SAs, PIs, breakers, transformers) and approve manufacturer information
  • Design equipment support structures for AIS from 66kV to 400kV and liaise with manufacturers
  • Lead design integration of inverters, BESS enclosures, PCS units, transformers and auxiliary systems to grid connection
  • Produce site-wide ducting/cabling layouts and coordinate with other engineering disciplines
  • Develop earthing layouts from first principles across voltage levels
  • Support installation and commissioning teams to ensure correct installation and testing per design
  • Contribute to standardised systems, processes, designs and specifications

Key requirements

  • Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems Electrical preferred)
  • Experience in primary electrical design with a consultancy, contractor or utility in the Power industry
  • HV AC power systems design experience
  • Proven ability to produce electrical layout drawings for substations, switchrooms and control rooms
  • Experience with 11kV–400kV cabling and installation knowledge
  • Understanding of HV/EHV substation installation standards and TO/DNO specifications
  • Knowledge of cable installation types and parameters
