Overview

In this Associate Director role, you will lead technical delivery for complex structural projects within the SW&W team, shaping designs for defence, aviation, and education sectors. You will engage with clients and cross‑disciplinary teams, steering projects through lifecycle management and resource planning. The position offers leadership development, impactful project work, and exposure to high‑profile infrastructure programs. Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery of complex challenges and manage commercial and resource aspects
  • Develop leadership within the structural engineering team via business development and client management
  • Prepare technical reports conveying complex concepts to clients and stakeholders
  • Perform independent technical reviews and quality control on others’ work
  • Mentor and coach team members for professional development
  • Contribute to technical proposals and provide budget/schedule estimates for large projects
  • Support business development and win new projects
  • Continuously learn new skills and consider wider engineering issues in project delivery

Key requirements

  • Structural design experience with steel and reinforced concrete
  • Experience in analysis and design of seismically qualified structures
  • Knowledge of safety case interfaces in the nuclear sector
  • Experience delivering projects within the defence sector
  • Proficiency with design using British Standards and Eurocodes (seismic design)
  • Understanding of project management to coordinate delivery with clients
  • Excellent written communication for proposals and technical reports
  • Experience with construction contracts and client engagement during fee proposal and scoping
  • Experience with commercially available design software and finite element analysis
