Overview
As Principal Engineer, you lead Highway Engineering on Ontario MTO projects, shaping design from planning through execution. You’ll manage multidisciplinary teams, ensure design quality, and coordinate with stakeholders to deliver on time and within budget. You’ll integrate MTO standards into innovative solutions, mentor engineers, and contribute to business development. This is a downstream leadership role in Parsons’ Critical Infrastructure team, offering meaningful impact on mobility and community resilience.

Responsibilities
- Lead Highway Engineering on MTO projects from planning to execution, achieving milestones
- Oversee highway design development across projects including rehabilitation, replacement, widening, and expansion
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors across Ontario
- Support Project Manager in liaising with MTO and stakeholders; resolve project challenges
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets with cross-functional teams
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks to avoid delays and cost overruns
- Monitor field investigations, geometric and drainage design, pavement markings, construction staging, traffic management, and quantity estimation
- Prepare technical reports and documentation; ensure quality assurance of deliverables
- Assist in business development: proposals, methodologies, work programs, schedules, and budgets
- Integrate active transportation plans and standards into design
Key requirements
- University degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering
- P.Eng. licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
- 15+ years of MTO experience
- Solid experience in MTO Preliminary and/or Detail Design
- Advanced knowledge of highway engineering theory, regulations, and practice
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, AutoTurn
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
