Yorkshire Water seeks a Lead Design Engineer (Civil) to spearhead high‑quality civil design across water, wastewater and related infra. You will partner with planning and delivery teams within the Engineering Design Team to shape projects through governance and standards. Apply hydraulic design and treatment expertise to deliver safe, compliant, and cost‑effective solutions across the full lifecycle. The role supports the Design Authority and a culture of safety, sustainability and continuous improvement. Responsibilities
- Deliver civil design across water, wastewater, bioresources and storm overflow programmes
- Provide technical oversight with Strategic Planning Partner, Design Partner and Delivery Partners
- Ensure compliance with Yorkshire Water Engineering Specifications, guidance, legislation and standards
- Lead technical reviews of outputs and uphold governance throughout the project lifecycle
- Contribute to design governance activities: value engineering, constructability reviews, HAZOP/HAZCON workshops
- Develop efficient, cost‑effective and robust solutions aligned with TOTEX and whole‑life cost principles
- Promote standardisation and growth of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) with suppliers and planning teams
- Mentor junior engineers and graduates; support safety culture and risk management
- Ensure efficient design support across full project lifecycle and cross‑team coordination
Key requirements
- Degree‑qualified in Civil Engineering (or related discipline); ideally Chartered or working toward Chartership (ICE or equivalent)
- Minimum of 5 years’ civil design experience in the water or wastewater sector
- Strong capability in hydraulic modelling, treatment processes and pipeline design
- Experience across wastewater/water treatment works, gravity and pressurised pipelines, earthworks, structural design and site layout
- Strong communication skills; ability to translate technical information for non‑technical audiences
- Highly organized with track record of delivering multiple outputs to deadlines
- Full valid driving licence with less than 6 points; commitment to safety and sustainability
