Overview
In this role, you will support highway design and project delivery within WSP’s Local Government team in Norwich. You’ll work across the project life cycle to ensure designs meet budget, programme, and technical standards, while mentoring junior staff and contributing to the team’s knowledge base. You’ll collaborate with clients and stakeholders to deliver multi-disciplinary schemes and help steer estimates and approvals. This position offers exposure to diverse opportunities on high-profile council projects, with a focus on technical excellence and efficient service.
Responsibilities
- Develop highway designs and projects through all stages of the project life cycle to meet scope and standards
- Ensure delivery to budget, programme, technical standards, and legal requirements
- Provide guidance and support to junior staff and contribute to internal knowledge base
- Support Project Managers in planning, pricing, and cost estimation of proposals and deliverables
- Check, certify, and authorise designs and reports for issue
- Coordinate engineering resources to deliver work packages and liaise with client and stakeholders
- Support site supervision and monitor contractor compliance with contract requirements
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver schemes
- Maintain compliance with CDM regulations and quality processes
Key requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent; working towards IEng or CEng is expected
- Experience in highway design and/or drainage across project life cycles
- Knowledge of road geometry, roundabouts, junctions, inclusive active travel, drainage, restraint systems, and traffic control design (advantageous)
- Familiarity with design codes (Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD) and contract documentation
- Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage and/or PDS (or equivalent)
- Ability to manage change in tasks/projects with clear impact communication
