Lead Offline CADCAM Programmer

Overview

In this hands-on senior role, you will lead a CNC programming team responsible for delivering offline programs for complex 5-axis machining, ensuring on-time output aligned with production schedules. You’ll drive efficiency, maintain software, and develop tooling and setup sheets while mentoring junior colleagues. The position supports Wärtsilä’s mission to enable decarbonisation through innovative manufacturing technologies and safe, high-quality delivery. You’ll collaborate across shifts to meet tight deadlines and adapt to evolving business needs.

Responsibilities

• Plan and delegate work with clear priorities
• Create offline CNC code for 5-axis machines (Mazak Integrex e-1600V, e1060V8, i500) and other CNCs
• Drive improvements to reduce programming time
• Maintain and develop software
• Demonstrate strong offline programming skills
• Create accurate tooling and setup sheets
• Supervise and mentor junior team members
• Maintain clear communications and strong work ethic
• Drive continuous improvement and safety adherence
• Support cross-disciplinary skills training when required

Key requirements

• Experience in a busy production office environment
• Machinist background with apprenticeship
• Strong modern tooling knowledge
• Work holding/fixture design experience
• Proficient in Edgecam, Mastercam or similar
• Mazatrol – matrixcam2 & DX Soft Control programming
• Expert CAD skills (Solid Edge or similar)
• ISO programming & Mazatrol experience desirable
• Vericut anti-collision software experience
• Familiar with mill-turn techniques
• SAP experience an advantage
• 10+ years engineering experience in manufacturing
• 10+ years CNC programming knowledge
• CI experience (6 Sigma)
