Senior Layout Integration Engineer

Overview

As Senior Layout Integration Engineer, you drive integrated plant layouts for Fusion and Modular Nuclear programmes, acting as technical lead for major areas and work packages. You will coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces, guide design maturity through reviews and studies, and ensure delivery quality and programme commitments. This role places you at the core of layout optimization, equipment and piping arrangement, and safety-conscious integration across systems. You join a global engineering team delivering critical nuclear projects with a strong focus on collaboration and impactful solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead plant layout development from concept to detailed design
• Coordinate equipment, piping, cable tray, access and maintenance layouts
• Lead piping routing studies and layout optimisation
• Own delivery of layout work packages and plant areas
• Manage requirements, assumptions, constraints and interfaces
• Coordinate interfaces between systems, buildings, structures and supporting infrastructure
• Facilitate model reviews, layout reviews and multidisciplinary workshops
• Lead clash detection and interface management
• Support Human Factors, Fire, Architectural and Civil & Structural integration
• Ensure layout solutions meet system, safety, construction and maintenance needs
• Lead multidisciplinary work to resolve requirements conflicts and integration challenges
• Author technical reports, optioneering studies, design philosophies and engineering recommendations
• Present and defend technical recommendations to stakeholders
• Support modularisation, transportation, lifting and construction assessments
• Mentor engineers and designers
• Support development of layout standards, methodologies and best practice

Key requirements

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent industrial experience
• Significant experience in plant layout, piping layout, plant integration or multidisciplinary engineering delivery
• Experience leading plant area development and multidisciplinary coordination activities
• Experience facilitating design reviews, model reviews and technical workshops
• Experience using CAD/BIM platforms (E3D, PDMS, Plant 3D, Siemens NX, Revit, Inventor or similar)
• Experience using Navisworks or equivalent clash detection software
• Strong understanding of equipment arrangement, piping layout, constructability and plant integration
• Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, requirements management and interface management
• Experience supporting gated design review processes and technical governance
• Strong report writing, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to author, defend and implement technical recommendations
• SC Clearance or capable of achieving it
