Principal Full Stack Engineer (Agentic AI)

Overview

In this role you drive the design and delivery of Abcam’s Agentic AI platform, shaping AI-enabled capabilities for internal and external customers. You will lead architectural direction, mentor engineers, and ensure high quality, reliable, scalable AI applications. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to translate business problems into robust technical solutions, accelerating impact in life sciences. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines system design with practical delivery, within a culture focused on continuous improvement and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead the delivery of the Agentic AI platform and applications, including RAG systems and agent workflows
• Establish engineering best practices for GenAI/LLM applications, covering design patterns, evaluation, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Mentor engineers, influence architectural direction, and drive adoption of Agentic AI capabilities
• Ensure quality, reliability, and scalability of AI solutions across the engineering lifecycle

Key requirements

• Strong software engineering capability in TypeScript (Python beneficial) with backend/API development
• Experience designing, deploying, and operating production-grade AI systems focused on reliability and performance
• Expertise in Agentic AI systems: RAG, prompt engineering, LLM integration, MCP, agentic workflows, model evaluation, fine tuning
• Cloud deployment of AI apps (AWS preferred)
• CI/CD, orchestration, containerisation, and testing practices
• Strong interpersonal skills and cross-functional collaboration to translate business problems into technical solutions
