In this senior role, you will lead Derbyshire Dales’ finance team to deliver robust financial planning, reporting and governance that underpin the council’s services. You’ll work closely with cross‑functional teams to translate strategy into sound financial management and performance improvements. The role offers high visibility and an opportunity to shape the council’s financial resilience for the community. You will drive change with a focus on public sector stewardship and service improvement.

Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the finance team to deliver timely budgets, forecasts, and statutory accounts
- Oversee financial governance, controls, and risk management
- Provide strategic financial planning aligned with council priorities and service delivery
- Engage with stakeholders across departments and partner organisations
- Report to senior leadership and Members on financial performance and policy impact
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and performance reporting
- Ensure compliance with public sector accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Support decision-making with robust financial analysis and business cases
Key requirements
- Qualified finance professional with substantial public sector/local authority experience
