Overview

In this Solution Architect role, you will help shape Shell’s cloud-native ETRM landscape on Azure, driving a scalable and secure architecture for global trading capabilities. You’ll influence architectural decisions from design through delivery, coordinating across data, processes, and security to support the Trading & Supply transformation. You will lead architecture discussions, mentor designers, and ensure robust, standards-aligned solutions that enable fast, safe innovation. This position offers a unique chance to impact Shell’s trading systems at scale within a dynamic, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong architectural leadership and foster cross-team collaboration
  • Serve as the primary architectural contact for IT projects
  • Integrate business process, data, application, technical, and information security in IT solutions
  • Ensure architectures are documented to Shell standards
  • Guide detailed designers and analysts and review solution designs
  • Participate in Architecture Review Board sessions as needed
  • Contribute to Reference Models in BizzDesign or other tooling
  • Elevate deliverables to conceptual and logical architecture levels
  • Monitor technology foresight and apply insights to future-ready designs
  • Stay aligned with Shell IT standards and services in solution designs
  • Champion architectural excellence and engage stakeholders on strategic improvements

Key requirements

  • Long-established Trading IT background
  • Hands-on OpenLink Endur experience
  • End-to-end understanding of the trading lifecycle
  • Extensive software and architecture delivery experience
  • Ownership of software product architecture, design, and standards in commodities trading
  • Proven leadership in architectural decisions across portfolios
  • TOGAF or similar EA framework experience
  • Strong collaboration and communication with business and IT stakeholders
  • Problem solving and innovation mindset to manage dependencies and technical debt
  • Experience with leading engineering communities according to Shell standards
  • Collaboration and stakeholder management
  • Clear communication of complex technical concepts
  • Leadership and influence beyond initial remit
  • Node.js, .Net, .Net Core, Python (expertise)
  • Azure/AWS cloud-native development
  • React and micro-frontend front-end tech
