Building Engineer

Overview

general building engineer role within Amey, supporting HMPPS across 60 prisons. you will perform planned and reactive maintenance to keep facilities safe, compliant and operational, partnering with cross-functional teams to resolve issues. the role combines hands-on maintenance with system checks and safety testing, contributing to secure and well-maintained environments. a stable, long-term career is offered with training and clear progression opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure availability of critical parts for statutory tasks and manage remedial work in the CAFM system
• Perform general and semi-skilled maintenance including security systems (CCTV and alarms)
• Conduct monthly checks and tests of fire extinguishers, fire hydrants and hoses
• Complete quarterly RCD testing and inspect Misting Units
• Maintain fire doors and perform flushing and tap temperature tests per water risk assessments
• Undertake monthly and annual emergency lighting checks
• Test and check smoke vents as required
• Carry out other duties as required

Key requirements

• Experience in multiple maintenance areas: fire, door maintenance, extinguisher maintenance and alarm core points, emergency lighting, RCD, water temperature testing
• Strong general building maintenance/DIY experience
• General IT skills
