Senior Software Engineer I – Business Onboarding and Verification

Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer at Wise, you will design and build scalable, compliant onboarding systems for European and UK businesses. You’ll automate information collection, verification and decision processes to shorten onboarding time while managing risk. You’ll create flexible journeys that adapt to markets and regulatory needs, collaborating across Product, Compliance and Operations to balance customer experience with safety. This role offers impact at scale as Wise expands into new markets and deepens its business onboarding capabilities. You will drive end-to-end delivery from discovery to impact measurement, shaping how businesses access Wise.

• Starting salary: 87,500 – 111,000 + RSUs

Responsibilities

• Design and build reliable, scalable systems for business onboarding and verification across Europe and the UK
• Develop systems to verify businesses, owners, directors and related parties
• Automate data collection, verification and decision-making to reduce onboarding time and manual work
• Create flexible onboarding journeys adapting to markets, types of business and regulations
• Implement robust controls and monitoring to manage financial crime risk with minimal customer friction
• Own projects end-to-end from discovery and design through delivery and impact measurement
• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Operations and other engineering teams while upholding high standards of reliability, testing and code quality

Key requirements

• Strong product mindset and customer-focused approach with data-driven decision making
• Experience with Java or other JVM-based language, Spring framework and JDBC/database internals
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and distributed/concurrent systems
• Relational and non-relational databases, query optimization and schema design
• Experience writing testable code and applying Test Driven Development
