Responsibilities

• Design and develop optical systems for medical devices
• Prototype and test optical components and assemblies
• Collaborate with mechanical, electronics and software engineers to deliver integrated solutions
• Utilise optical design tools (e.g., Zemax, Code-V, OSLO, FRED) to model and optimise performance
• Communicate project progress clearly to stakeholders
• Contribute to a range of medical technologies and maintain high quality standards

Key requirements

• Experience in optical systems design (optical physicist/engineer/opto-mechanical roles)
• Proficiency with optical design tools (Zemax, Code-V, OSLO, FRED) or similar
• Strong communication skills for collaborative work
• Degree in a field related to optical systems design
• Industry experience range from PhD entry to 15–20 years
• Location-based role in Cambridge; willingness/availability for relocation
• Experience with prototyping and testing of medical devices
