Overview

As a Principal Process Engineer at MMB, you shape process functions across projects from concept to commissioning, focusing on safe, compliant, and efficient water and wastewater solutions. You’ll lead process design activities, develop models and control philosophies, and drive innovative, whole-life-cost thinking toward net-zero goals. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor graduates, delivering high-quality outputs that support regional water infrastructure programs. This role offers impactful work improving communities and the environment in the southwest region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, planning and execution of process engineering on projects
  • Develop process design deliverables such as process models, mass balances, control philosophies
  • Analyse site performance and identify risks; develop mitigations
  • Challenge process selection to ensure best-value solutions
  • Identify opportunities for innovation to meet whole-life-cost and net-zero drivers
  • Prepare and review designs to ensure fit-for-purpose and compliance with standards
  • Produce and review technical specifications and procurement-related documents
  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery through standard designs and digital tools
  • Act as technical checker and conduct technical reviews across teams
  • Collaborate with commercial, operations and construction teams to deliver practical, safe solutions
  • Mentor Graduates and Engineers to develop their knowledge and skills
  • Engage with clients in a one-team approach to achieving aims
  • Conduct site reviews to ensure buildability and integration with existing systems

Key requirements

  • Chemical Engineering or related Process Engineering degree
  • Chartered membership of a professional institution (e.g. ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience
  • Experience with water and/or wastewater unit processes and wastewater project design
  • Experience with HAZOP studies would be advantageous
  • Experience delivering high-quality outputs in line with design, quality and safety standards
