Senior/Principal Engineer – Bridges

Overview

As a Senior/Principal Engineer at WSP, you help shape civil and bridge projects from design to delivery. You mentor junior engineers and drive quality on time and within budget. You work on UK and international bridge design, maintenance, and strengthening, while supporting broader civil tasks. You will engage in feasibility studies, scheme design, and cost estimates, contributing to a culture of learning and collaboration. Responsibilities

• Bridge design (UK and overseas)
• Bridge management
• Bridge strengthening and repair, inspections and assessments
• Civil/structural engineering support to other teams
• Feasibility studies and options appraisals
• Preparation of documents, reports, health and safety risk assessments, scheme designs/drawings, feasibility studies and outline cost estimates
• Preparation of fee estimates
• Supervision of junior team members and CAD technicians

Key requirements

• Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer
• Experience in bridge design, maintenance and assessment (construction sites and design office)
• Project management experience in bridge projects
• Knowledge of design, maintenance and supervision of structures; track record of innovation
• DMRB and MCDHW knowledge related to structural schemes
• Understanding and application of Eurocodes to bridge design
• Experience in design/assessment of steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges
• Experience with grillage, space frame and finite element analysis software (LUSAS, Superstress, SAM)
• Strong communication, client handling and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to adapt and contribute to the bridges team development
