Fire Safety Engineer

Overview

As a Fire Safety Engineer, you help prepare Hinkley Point C for safe operation by establishing fire safety governance and readiness. You will collaborate with engineering, operations, and regulatory stakeholders to embed fire safety across a new nuclear station. Your work shapes emergency planning, fire protection arrangements, and compliance programs for a high-hazard environment. This role offers a chance to influence long-term safety culture and readiness on a flagship energy project. You will be part of a mission-driven team driving safety and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire safety governance and operational readiness strategies for the station
• Lead Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Hazard Analyses with input from project stakeholders
• Support implementation of fire prevention strategies and protection arrangements
• Provide specialist advice on fire legislation and regulatory compliance
• Contribute to emergency preparedness, response planning, and WANO readiness activities

Key requirements

• Fire safety design and management in complex industrial or high-hazard environments
• Experience in developing governance frameworks and operational fire safety documentation
• Knowledge of UK fire safety legislation (e.g., Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order)
• Experience with WANO reviews and operational readiness activities
• Conducting Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Hazard Analyses
• Stakeholder collaboration to implement fire prevention and protection programs
• Production of fire safety documentation supporting readiness and compliance
