Overview

In this role, you will lead cost control for diverse projects in the Energy & Natural Resources sector, including nuclear. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create robust cost data and drive informed decisions, while aligning budgets with schedules and quality standards. You’ll shape cost control processes, implement PMB and CBS structures, and support change management and forecasting. The opportunity combines technical cost engineering with leadership to deliver major programmes in a high-stakes environment.

Responsibilities

  • Tailor cost control approaches to client needs and align with best practice
  • Administer and maintain cost control systems to track budgets, expenditures, and forecasts
  • Support the Integrated Project Team to establish an accurate PMB and aid change control
  • Develop project CBS and align budgets with WBS to monitor costs
  • Map cost estimates to WBS and set budgets against WPs, planning packages and control accounts
  • Adhere to NEC or FIDIC cost processes for reporting and control
  • Lead accruals for timely reflection of ACWP in cost data
  • Provide cost information for change notes and underpin forecasts
  • Update forecasts to align ETC
  • Ensure proper cost capture requirements, WO structure, and PO alignment with WOs
  • Align POs with CBS to clarify Cost Performance Indices
  • Validate supply chain data for accurate forecasting and trend analysis
  • Interact with management when delivering cost control updates in complex projects
  • Demonstrate leadership in developing delivery teams and cost control capabilities

Key requirements

  • Professional project controls experience specializing in cost engineering/control across project lifecycles
  • Understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM), progress reporting, forecasting and performance reporting
  • Strong communication skills and leadership capable of motivating and developing a team
  • BPSS level security clearance (can be obtained)
  • Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., APM, PMI)
  • Experience in cost performance reporting and forecasting techniques
  • Experience leading Cost Control Assurance activities
  • Awareness of Scheduling, Risk Management, Reporting, Change Control interaction with Cost Control (desirable)
  • Ability to make risk-based decisions with limited parameters
  • Strong stakeholder management and conflict navigation skills
