Overview
As Director of Engineering, you lead the Product Engineering group within AI Engineering to deliver production‑level autonomous driving capabilities. You define the technical direction, align teams with Wayve’s objectives, and scale ML practices across Driving, ADAS, Parking, and HMI. You will shape data-driven training, evaluation, and deployment for multiple OEM partnerships. This role offers the chance to influence core autonomy technology and build resilient engineering organizations. You’ll join a mission to advance safe, mapless autonomous systems at scale.

Responsibilities
- Define and own the technical vision, strategy and metrics for your area, ensuring alignment with Wayve-wide goals
- Lead multiple teams (Driving, ADAS, Parking, HMI) and guide Engineering Managers
- Establish robust ML practices from the outset and attract technical leadership
- Frame autonomous driving as a data-centric problem and design efficient data curriculums
- Develop career plans and growth trajectories for engineers; mentor and grow talent
- Coordinate with senior leadership to maintain a culture of impact, performance, and health
- Partner with OEMs and cross-functional teams to ensure production-quality delivery
- Build resilient systems and scalable processes for data, training, and deployment
- Drive an eval-driven culture to achieve KPI targets with efficiency
- Set technical direction and ensure deliverables align with company objectives
Key requirements
- Successful Autonomy products experience with complex AI models
- Experience leading complex, multi-layered teams or matrixed organizations
- Domain skills in autonomy: autopilot/navigation, active safety, parking
- Roadmap articulation and interfaces with leadership and business functions
- Execution skills in resource planning and program management (1–2 years out)
- Engineering practices: code development, testing, serviceability
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Desirable: foundation models application, working with automotive OEMs, GenAI simulation, cloud platforms, large-scale data pipelines
