Overview
As an Engineering Manager in London, you lead technical assurance across multi-discipline design inputs through the full project life cycle, from design to operation. You’ll coordinate teams, manage budgets and schedules, and ensure compliant, safe, and innovative solutions for UK rail projects. You’ll work closely with designers, clients, and partners to deliver high-quality outcomes and develop staff capabilities. This role offers impact shaping rail infrastructure within a high-performance engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Produce and manage the Engineering Management Plan for allocated projects
- Implement cost-effective, high-quality, safe and environmentally responsible design and construction approaches
- Assess and monitor engineering competence and appoint discipline engineers
- Apply design controls and ensure compliance with Railway Group and Network Rail standards
- Maintain IDC processes and chair design integration reviews
- Manage engineering schedules and deliverables
- Mentor and develop engineers and supervise project staff
- Ensure CDM and environmental compliance and monitor construction activities
- Review designs, calculations, and drawings and support tenders
- Oversee contract documents, cost estimates and change management
- Ensure EMS compliance and contribute to IMS development
Key requirements
- Experience in a design management role with stakeholder engagement
- Experience on UK civil engineering or building projects with railway interfaces
- Line management responsibility for design/technical teams
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
