Graduate Engineer – BMS Engineering Ltd (Motorsport & Automotive)

The Role
This role is ideal for a graduate who wants to build a strong foundation in practical manufacturing before progressing into design and engineering development. You’ll gain hands‑on experience across machining, fabrication, inspection, and workshop operations, giving you the real‑world understanding needed for future design responsibilities.
Initial Responsibilities (with learning outcomes):
- CNC Machining Learn how to set up, program, and operate CNC machining equipment to produce complex components. You’ll gain experience in tooling selection, workholding, machining strategies, CAM programming, and developing efficient machining workflows.
- Fabrication & Assembly Assist in the manufacture of chassis, roll cages, and welded assemblies. You’ll learn how components are prepared, fixtured, and welded to meet dimensional and quality requirements essential for high‑performance structures.
- Inspection & Quality Control Learn to interpret engineering drawings, apply GD&T, and use our FARO Quantum E CMM to measure complex geometries and verify components meet required tolerances.
- General Workshop Support Build confidence working across multiple manufacturing areas, learning how different processes link together and developing the adaptability needed in a small, high‑performance engineering team.
Progression Path:
As your manufacturing knowledge develops, you will gradually move into more advanced engineering responsibilities, including:
- CAD Modelling, Drawing Creation & Tooling Design Develop skills in 3D modelling and technical drawing, including tooling desigin to support machining, fabrication, and inspection processes.
- FEMAP FEA Gain experience performing structural analysis using FEMAP FEA, supporting design validation and optimisation of fabricated and machined parts.
- Process Development & Continuous Improvement Contribute to improving manufacturing processes, documenting and refining workflows, and supporting efficiency and quality improvements across the workshop.
- Customer-Facing Engineering Work Work directly with customers on technical requirements, design feedback, and project discussions, gaining experience in real motorsport and automotive engineering environments.
- 3D Scanning & Digital Measurement Support projects using 3D scanning and digital measurement workflows to assist reverse engineering, inspection, and design integration.
What We’re Looking For
- Degree in Mechanical, Motorsport, Manufacturing, or Automotive Engineering
- Strong interest and foundational knowledge in CAD, with experience in Siemens NX or Fusion 360 highly advantageous
- Previous race car project experience is beneficial
- Practical mindset with a hands‑on approach, able to adapt to different tasks and take responsibility
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Interest in motorsport and fabrication technologies
Salary and Benefits
