As we scale, the complexity of our legal, regulatory, and policy environment is increasing – particularly as we build out our energy trading capabilities. We are looking for someone to help us stay on top of this in a structured, practical way.
As a Legal and Policy Analyst at Powerverse, you will will take ownership of our policy environment, support day-to-day legal operations, and ensure we remain compliant as we grow.
This is not a traditional legal role. It sits at the intersection of legal, operations, and governance – ideal for someone who enjoys bringing structure to ambiguity, making policies practical, and ensuring things actually get done. You will act as the connective tissue between legal advice, internal teams, and execution – including supporting newer areas such as energy trading compliance as they are built out.
Policy Ownership & Governance
- Own and maintain all company policies (HR, compliance, information security, data protection, etc.)
- Ensure policies are up-to-date, version controlled, and aligned with current regulations and business practices
- Organise and maintain a clear, auditable policy repository
- Coordinate periodic policy reviews with internal stakeholders and external advisors
Data Protection & GDPR
- Support GDPR compliance across the business, working with our external DPO platform
- Maintain key documentation (e.g. ROPA, DPIAs, consent frameworks)
- Ensure alignment between product flows (e.g. app onboarding) and legal documentation (privacy policies, terms)
- Monitor regulatory developments impacting data usage and customer-facing products
Legal Operations
- Maintain contract registers and track key commercial terms (renewals, obligations, liabilities)
- Support the review and updating of commercial agreements (MSAs, NDAs, DPAs)
- Coordinate with external counsel and ensure advice is implemented internally
- Help standardise templates and improve contracting processes
Compliance & Risk Management
- Support ongoing compliance initiatives (e.g. anti-bribery, whistleblowing, information security)
- Maintain and track legal and compliance risks within the broader risk register
- Prepare materials for governance forums (e.g. board packs, risk committee updates)
- Ensure documentation and processes are audit-ready
Energy Trading & Regulatory Workstreams (BONUS)
- Support the build-out of compliance processes as Powerverse develops its energy trading and flexibility capabilities
- Work with the Flex and Trading teams to track regulatory requirements and market onboarding processes
- Coordinate submissions, audits, and qualification activities (e.g. ESO/DSO, Elexon), ensuring timelines and dependencies are managed
- Act as a project manager across internal teams and external advisors to keep compliance workstreams on track
- Maintain clear documentation and audit trails to support market participation and future scaling
Cross-Functional Enablement
- Work closely with Product, HR, and Commercial teams to ensure policies are embedded in practice
- Translate legal and regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance
- Support internal training and awareness on key topics (e.g. GDPR, compliance policies)
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- 2-5 years in a legal, compliance, or policy role (in-house, consulting, or legal practice)
- Experience with GDPR and data protection frameworks
- Exposure to contract management and policy drafting
Skills
- Highly organised – able to bring structure to messy environments
- Strong attention to detail, with good judgement on what matters
- Clear communicator – able to translate legal concepts into plain English
- Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, evolving environment
Mindset
- Pragmatic and solutions-focused – you prioritise what works in practice
- Ownership mentality – you take responsibility for outcomes
- Curious and commercially aware – you understand the context behind decisions
Nice to Have (but not essential)
- Experience in a startup or high-growth environment
- Exposure to regulated industries (e.g. energy, fintech)
- Familiarity with HR or compliance platforms
Why This Role Matters
This role is central to helping Powerverse scale in a controlled and compliant way.
As we expand into flexibility markets and build out our energy trading capabilities, the regulatory and operational complexity of the business increases significantly. This role ensures we stay on top of that complexity – without slowing the business down – and helps new capabilities get off the ground in a structured, robust way.
