Senior Highways & Active Travel Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead and deliver highways and active travel infrastructure projects within a leading highways consultancy. You will work with local authorities and stakeholders to design, manage, and document 3D highway solutions, focusing on Section 278 schemes. You’ll mentor junior engineers and help coordinate project timelines in a collaborative setting. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape local authority urban mobility and road design at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and manage highways and active travel projects from conception to completion
• Utilise Civil 3D for 3D design outputs
• Collaborate with local authorities and stakeholders to meet project requirements
• Conduct site assessments and surveys to inform design
• Prepare technical reports and documentation for project development
• Contribute to team workload strategy and project timelines
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers

Key requirements

• Significant experience in highways engineering and active travel projects
• Proficiency in Civil 3D for infrastructure design beyond 2D
• Strong understanding of local authority and Section 278 processes
• Excellent project management skills with ability to lead multiple projects
• Strong communication skills for liaising with stakeholders and team members
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualification
