Senior Civil Design Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will support UK water sector programmes from our Leeds and Sheffield offices, delivering civil design outputs for water and wastewater infrastructure. You work in cross-disciplinary teams to produce outline and detailed designs, with construction-ready documentation. You’ll engage clients, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and mentor junior engineers to raise team capability. The role emphasizes delivering high-quality, low-carbon, resilient solutions across AMP8/AMP9 frameworks. This is a hands-on design position with real impact on major water projects.

Responsibilities

• Engage with clients, gather requirements and translate them into practical design solutions
• Contribute to feasibility studies and optioneering for multi-million-pound programmes
• Coordinate civil design with structural, mechanical, electrical and ICA disciplines
• Produce outline and detailed civil designs and construction documentation to UK standards
• Own design workstreams, drive technical efficiency, and ensure delivery to time, cost and quality targets
• Mentor graduate engineers and promote best practices within the team
• Support procurement and construction through robust design packages
• Ensure compliance with CDM and quality assurance processes
• Support development of colleagues and continuous improvement initiatives

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Postgraduate qualifications and chartership, or working towards chartership
• Membership of a relevant professional institution
• Experience with water and wastewater infrastructure projects (preferred)
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and manage design outputs
