Senior/Principal Transport Planner

Overview

In this role you will shape transport strategy and delivery across diverse development and infrastructure projects, from regeneration schemes to major national initiatives. You’ll advise clients, lead technical work, and ensure design and planning outcomes are justified and deliverable. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate active travel, sustainable transport, and policy objectives, while managing project scope, budget and quality. Responsibilities

• lead and assure technical transport planning work across development sites and major schemes
• develop transport strategies and provide early-stage advisory support
• advise on active travel, sustainable transport and on-site/off-site transport design requirements
• model and assess future transport demand and network needs
• build and justify technical positions through the design and planning process
• manage projects including programme, quality and commercial outcomes (fee negotiations)
• collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support junior colleagues
• contribute to business development and work-winning activities
• deliver outputs on high-profile regeneration, town and infrastructure projects

Key requirements

• UK Planning experience
• experience leading transport and development planning work (early-stage advice, design development, technical assurance, planning submissions)
• interest in Net Zero and sustainable transport
• bus planning, strategy or operational experience
• ability to analyse, model and assess future transport demand and apply design guidance
• experience negotiating transport strategies with local authorities
• ability to manage programmes, budgets, quality and commercial outcomes
• strong written and verbal communication; ability to visualise complex problems and present clearly
