Overview
As Principal Process Engineer, you will steer process solutions for water and wastewater projects, shaping design directions and technical standards. You’ll lead multidisciplinary delivery, mentor engineers, and drive innovation to improve treatment performance and asset resilience. This role offers influence across projects from concept to construction, strengthening client partnerships and growing Stantec’s UK Process Engineering capability. You’ll work on high-impact water programmes that support sustainable communities.

Responsibilities
- Lead the technical delivery of process engineering solutions for water and wastewater projects
- Develop, review and assure process designs, calculations, mass balances, hydraulic assessments, treatment evaluations and specifications
- Provide technical direction to project teams ensuring practical and client-aligned outcomes
- Lead complex projects from concept through detailed design to construction support
- Support asset optimisation, performance improvement, site investigations and technical testing
- Collaborate with civil, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and environmental specialists for integrated solutions
- Build and maintain client relationships, translating challenges into engineering outcomes
- Contribute to investment programmes, bids and framework opportunities across the UK water sector
- Mentor and develop engineers, sharing knowledge within the Process Engineering team
- Champion innovation, best practice and continuous improvement in process engineering delivery
Key requirements
- Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering or related discipline
- Significant experience in process engineering within the water, wastewater, utilities or related sectors
- Strong technical experience across process design, calculations, mass balances, hydraulic assessments and treatment process evaluation
- Proven experience providing technical leadership across complex multidisciplinary projects
- Strong understanding of water and/or wastewater treatment processes, engineering principles and UK industry requirements
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to build relationships with clients and project teams
- Experience mentoring and developing engineers and providing technical guidance to colleagues
- Ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to successful delivery of complex projects
