Engineering Manager, Guest & Host

Overview

In this Engineering Manager role, you lead a diverse team to operate and enhance co-hosting services and the underlying platform at Airbnb. You will shape technical direction in collaboration with cross-functional partners to enable scalable, reliable experiences for hosts and guests. You’ll balance short-term delivery with long-term architecture, driving product innovation across Booking, Payments, and Trust. This role offers the opportunity to influence a globally-used product and foster an inclusive, high-performance engineering culture. You’ll contribute to Airbnb’s mission by enabling host collaboration at scale and accelerating product growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a software engineering team; oversee day-to-day operations and technical deep dives
• Collaborate with product, design, and stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into scalable solutions
• Strengthen partnerships with Engineering, Design, and Product to realize ambitious feature concepts
• Invest in and plan new technical capabilities to push product innovation
• Coordinate delivery of features with other engineering teams, ensuring clear plans and successful launches
• Recruit and mentor engineers, delivering individualized development plans
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and innovative team culture with a strong product mindset

Key requirements

• 5+ years of engineering management experience
• 9+ years of relevant software development experience in a fast-paced tech environment
• Deep expertise with backend systems and complex data modeling in large-scale consumer applications
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences
• End-to-end, product-oriented mindset with ability to balance short-term needs and long-term quality
• Strong collaboration skills to align multiple teams with potentially conflicting priorities
