Head of Health and Safety

Overview

In this role you will lead the health and safety agenda across the UK and Ireland for a major manufacturing business, driving a culture of safety and continuous improvement. You will partner with senior leaders to embed safety into strategy, ensure regulatory compliance, and elevate operational standards across sites. You’ll shape policies, oversee audits and risk assessments, and develop a high-performing H&S function. This is a strategic leadership opportunity to significantly impact safety culture and business performance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the company’s H&S strategy across all sites to raise safety standards
• Manage regulatory compliance, audits, inspections, and risk assessments across a complex manufacturing environment
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure adherence to legislation and best practices
• Create, implement, and continuously improve H&S policies, procedures, and training frameworks
• Provide strategic leadership to H&S teams, focusing on development, competence, and engagement
• Work with senior leadership to embed health and safety into business strategy and day-to-day operations

Key requirements

• Proven experience in health and safety leadership within large manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environments
• Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation and compliance management
• Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills at all levels
• Professional certifications such as NEBOSH (essential) with ISO45001 Lead Auditor preferred
• Ability to balance strategic oversight with close operational delivery and continuous improvement
