Overview

As Project Director in Amey Consulting’s Rail team, you drive project management excellence across portfolios, guiding multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders to deliver quality, cost, and schedule targets. You’ll lead bid development, client and supplier engagement, and line management when needed, shaping projects from first principles. This role sits at the heart of a global infrastructure consultancy that values high performance, safety, and commercial insight. You will influence cross-location delivery and create lasting client impact.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a project management SME, directing and supervising project teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers
  • Lead preparation and review of PM information to ensure delivery meets quality, cost and programme criteria
  • Own the commercial success of projects, controlling budgets and costs for deliverables
  • Liaise with client and supplier reps up to director level, including presenting proposals
  • Identify opportunities for PM initiatives and sponsor their development
  • Lead bid preparation and the work-winning function, including bid director duties
  • Perform people management responsibilities when required by the business

Key requirements

  • Bachelor or Master in an appropriate subject
  • Fellowship of the Association for Project Management (to be gained within six months)
  • Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status
  • Deep expertise in project management theory applied to diverse situations
  • Experience in managing others and project scope across minor and major projects
  • Proficient with project management software and tools
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to spot scope variations
  • Excellent knowledge of suppliers and their services; strong client-facing skills
  • Excellent oral communication and ability to run internal trainings and client presentations
  • Commitment to Health, Safety and Welfare regulations
  • People management and leadership capability across dispersed teams
