As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Devonport Royal Dockyard, you will lead mechanical design work for nuclear and non-nuclear systems, guiding projects from concept through implementation and decommissioning. You’ll work in a skilled team to ensure safe, compliant operations and develop technical leadership across the full lifecycle. The role supports national defence capability in a dynamic, security-conscious environment. You’ll contribute to shaping robust engineering solutions at scale with cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of designs across Start-up, Concept, Scheme, Detailed and Implementation phases
- Lead or manage a team of engineers, planning tasks and providing guidance
- Act as lead author for design and safety documentation and manage supporting assessments
- Provide advice on implementation and maintenance of design documentation and regulatory compliance (nuclear and non-nuclear)
- Lead quality checking services with reference to technical specialty/expertise
Key requirements
- Experience in mechanical engineering principles for design, operation, and maintenance of systems (Steam and Condensate, Industrial Gases, Fresh Water, Demineralised Water, Domestic Water)
- Proficiency with digital tools and platforms for design, analysis, documentation, and collaboration
- Experience across the full design lifecycle of engineering projects
- Knowledge of regulations, legislation, and standards governing mechanical services system design, ensuring safety and compliance
- Experience in nuclear or other high-hazard industries
- Security Check (SC) clearance capability or clear willingness to obtain
