Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead mechanical design and development of advanced packaging for broadband fiber optic and RF devices, guiding a team of engineers. You mentor junior staff and collaborate on cross-functional product platforms to deliver reliable, cost-effective packaging solutions. You will perform concept and detail design, thermal analysis, and maintain engineering documentation while engaging with suppliers and OEM partners. This position offers hands-on leadership in a fast-paced environment where your work shapes product reliability and manufacturability. You will help drive technology and packaging innovations that support scalable product releases.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of advanced packaging and enclosure solutions, serving as technical team lead when needed
• Participate on cross-functional product development teams with a focus on platform designs
• Develop electronic packaging solutions for new and existing designs using various fabrication processes
• Perform feasibility studies on new technology and concepts
• Create conceptual and detailed electronic designs using 2D/3D modeling software
• Conduct thermal analyses using physical and electronic simulation methods
• Create, revise, and maintain engineering documentation and reports per standard practices
• Collaborate with supply chain to advise on component specifications, evaluations, and qualifications
• Serve as main technical contact to OEM/turnkey vendors as required
• Produce development and engineering support documentation; participate in Engineering Change Order processes
• Perform other duties as required
• Collaborate with development teams to create cost-effective mechanical parts and assemblies using CAD software

Key requirements

• BS in Mechanical Engineering
• MS in Mechanical Engineering preferred
• Proficiency with 2D/3D modeling software (AutoCAD, Pro/E)
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Strong analytical skills with thermal modeling and finite element analysis tools
• Experience with mechanical measurement devices (thermal profiling, torque testing)
• Experience with fabrication processes (milling, lathes, die casting, plastic injection molding, stamping, sheet metal, cold forming)
• Strong leadership abilities to drive a product development team from concept to release
• Experience in cross-functional, team-based product development
