Design Manager

Overview

In this Design Manager role, you will lead design development for two schemes from preconstruction through delivery, ensuring buildability, compliance and timely information flow. You will work closely with project teams, consultants and clients on a flagship Bath-related extra care housing project, with on-site involvement during construction. The position combines preconstruction leadership with hands-on site collaboration to drive value, manage risks and keep the programme on track. This is a driver role in a Tier 2 contractor environment with opportunity for progression and impact on complex, hillside sites.

Responsibilities

• Manage design development for your schemes
• Chair regular design team meetings
• Engage and manage consultant design teams
• Liaise with client and statutory bodies
• Agree information required schedule
• Ensure key dates are achieved
• Review construction design information for buildability and compliance
• Identify value engineering opportunities
• Proactively resolve issues
• Manage specialist sub-contractor design teams
• Oversee timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction

Key requirements

• Engineering/Construction delivery or Architectural background
• Strong technical and commercial knowledge of construction methods and materials
• Knowledge of procurement lead times and building regulations
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Strong planning and problem-solving abilities
• Driven, positive and ambitious with ability to work in a small team
• Proven track record in Design Management/Coordinator role with a main contractor
