Overview
As Structural Engineer you will shape the structural aspects across project lifecycles for major water and wastewater schemes. You’ll contribute to feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver compliant, buildable solutions. The role blends technical delivery with client engagement and continuous improvement, in a fast-moving water sector framework. Responsibilities
- Preparing and reviewing designs to ensure fitness for purpose and compliance with standards
- Producing structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports
- Conducting site inspections and assessing existing structures for repair or replacement
- Producing and reviewing procurement-related specifications and tender submissions
- Applying design standards and contributing to client and industry standards
- Challenging client specifications and defending complex solutions
- Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes and adopt standard designs and digital tools
- Acting as technical checker and performing cross-team technical reviews
- Managing design interfaces with other disciplines and documenting outputs
- Collaborating with commercial, operations and construction teams to deliver safe, practical solutions
- Supervising and mentoring graduates and engineers
- Engaging with clients to build a one-team relationship and support project aims
- Undertaking site reviews to ensure buildability and integration with existing systems
Key requirements
- Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or related field
- Chartered member of a professional institution (e.g. ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience
- Experience in water or wastewater projects (infrastructure or non-infrastructure)
- Knowledge of Eurocodes and British Standards
- Proficient in structural analysis software (Staad Pro, ETABS, SAP2000)
- Experience delivering high-quality outputs meeting design, safety and quality standards
- Strong communication skills with team members and stakeholders
- Methodical problem-solving and proactive, pragmatic approach
- Ability to deliver under tight timeframes and manage priorities
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
