Overview

As a Mechanical Handling Equipment Engineer at AECOM in Adelaide, you shape the design and delivery of cranes, hoists, and heavy lifting systems for highly regulated infrastructure. Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of mechanical handling systems (cranes, hoists, lifting devices) ensuring compliance with project and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and review technical specifications, calculations, and design documentation across concept to detailed design phases
  • Collaborate with structural, civil, electrical, controls, process and building services teams to integrate handling systems
  • Perform optioneering, load path, heavy-lift assessments, constructability reviews and risk assessments
  • Provide technical leadership to engineers and designers with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and delivery
  • Support safety cases, engineering justifications, procurement activities, vendor reviews and technical bid evaluations for safety-significant equipment
  • Support testing, inspection, commissioning and acceptance activities with suppliers and project teams
  • Contribute to reliability, maintainability, inspection and lifecycle requirements for critical lifting assets
  • Support project scope, program and delivery objectives through design development and reviews

Key requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience delivering crane, lifting or mechanical handling systems on major infrastructure, industrial, defence, energy, marine, nuclear or other highly regulated projects
  • Experience in nuclear industry or other highly regulated environment
  • Experience developing engineering documentation with focus on safety, risk, and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams (structural, civil, electrical, controls, process)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical handling equipment, lifting systems, load paths and interfaces
  • Experience with overhead/gantry cranes, specialised lifting systems, crane runway systems, heavy lifts or remote handling (desirable)
  • Knowledge of safety-significant or safety-classified equipment, nuclear safety culture, ALARP, reliability and lifecycle requirements
  • Experience with requirements/configuration management, systems engineering, verification/validation, vendor management, procurement, factory acceptance testing, commissioning and operational readiness (desirable)
  • CPEng/Chartered status or commitment to professional registration (desirable)
