Overview

In this senior role, you drive the technical development of AECOM’s Ground Engineering team while guiding projects and expanding client relationships. You lead multi-disciplinary geotechnical work, oversee data quality and design calculations, and mentor junior engineers. You’ll shape project delivery, contribute to a strong pipeline, and collaborate across Transport, Water, Energy, Buildings, and Places teams. This position offers impact across major UK and international projects and a chance to advance a trusted engineering brand.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee input, peer review, and verification of geotechnical data and analyses and associated design calculations
  • Provide consultative input to external partners across project life cycle including site selection and optioneering
  • Plan and manage geotechnical projects with schedules, coordination, and budget
  • Provide leadership and support to the Ground Engineering team to meet time and quality targets
  • Maintain industry presence and nurture relationships with past, current, and prospective clients to sustain opportunities
  • Lead multi-disciplinary project delivery for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Ground Engineering, Tunnelling, Transport, Water, Energy, Buildings and Places teams on project works and tenders
  • Mentor and develop junior team members to ensure growth and delivery capability

Key requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology/Geology with 2:1 classification (or equivalent)
  • MSc/MEng in Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is advantageous
  • Chartered status
  • Strong knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices
  • Understanding of current design codes, standards, and best practices in geotechnical design
  • Ability to collaborate in project delivery, work-winning, and client satisfaction
  • Knowledge of interpretation/parametric assessment methods for geotechnical problems
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Effective networking across local, regional, and national markets to promote the AECOM brand
