Overview

As a Principal Electrical Engineer in the Design & Advanced Technology team, you drive electrical design delivery on complex water projects and mentor a multidisciplinary team. You’ll shape technical solutions for iconic UK infrastructure and enable successful programmes from design through construction. You collaborate across client and internal teams to deliver high-quality designs and participate in business development. This role offers impact at scale with opportunities to work on landmark projects abroad and contribute to water sector transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate or manage a team of Electrical & ICA engineers for delivery of technical design work on complex multi-disciplinary projects to high-quality levels
  • Manage time and budgets for the Electrical & ICA team to meet project milestones
  • Lead and produce technical deliverables (Single Line Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams, Load Schedules, MCC specifications, Control Philosophies, Control Network Architecture)
  • Provide technical input into Electrical aspects of complex projects and work with project management to hit milestones and budgets
  • Collaborate with client, operations, project, and service teams across the organization
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues and grow Electrical & ICA capabilities
  • Operate with minimal technical guidance and solve difficult problems; guide junior team members
  • Provide technical support for bid proposals
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated designs
  • Adhere to QA standards and review own and others’ work
  • Contribute to business development to grow the water market for the company

Key requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Experience in the Water/Wastewater Sector
  • Experience coordinating or managing an electrical design delivery team in a design consultancy
  • Broad perspective to identify innovative design solutions
  • Strong knowledge of electrical design practices
  • Familiarity with water company design codes and standards (e.g., WIMES)
  • Awareness of HAZOP, lightning risk assessments, earthing and bonding, lighting design, DSEAR and ATEX installation practices
  • Proficiency in electrical design software and digital analysis tools (e.g., Trimble/Amtech)
  • Ability to work independently; experience in industrial and process environments
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts across multidisciplinary teams
