As a Principal/Senior Civil Highways Engineer, you will lead civil and highway design from concept to detail, delivering innovative and cost-effective infrastructure. You’ll mentor engineers, manage multiple projects and client relationships, and ensure compliance with standards. Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of highway and civil schemes from concept to detailed design
- Produce designs for highways, drainage, earthworks and related infrastructure
- Ensure compliance with standards, regulations and best practice
- Manage technical delivery of multiple projects, including programmes, budgets and resources
- Mentor engineers and technicians, reviewing designs and documentation
- Provide expert advice on highway and civil engineering challenges and develop innovative solutions
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and support proposals and reports
- Oversee quality assurance and maintain consistency across offices
- Conduct site visits and ensure CDM and safety compliance
- Promote sustainability and stay informed on industry developments
- Support business development and tender submissions
Key requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent)
- 5-8 years’ experience in civil/highway engineering design in a consultancy
- Proven highway and infrastructure project delivery experience
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other design software
- Experience managing budgets, programmes and resources
- Mentoring experience for junior engineers/technicians
- Strong understanding of highways, drainage and utility design
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and applicable standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Chartered or Incorporated status or working towards (desirable)
- Membership of ICE, CIHT or IHE (desirable)
- Knowledge of Section 38, 278, 104 agreements and land drainage consents (desirable)
- Experience managing client relationships and contributing to business development (desirable)
